ELEMIS Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial – The Expert Overnight Mask

I’ve been excited to review this product for a while now. I don’t know why I haven’t done it sooner but here it is now! I received this as a birthday present and I fell in love with it the moment I opened the tub, and even more in love with it the more I used it.

If you haven’t heard of Elemis, you must be pretty unfamiliar with beauty. And that’s ok, we all have to start somewhere. But my guess is that if you’re here, you know of Elemis, and chances are you’ve tried at least a product or two of theirs.

Elemis are a British brand, often found in spas due to their luxurious products. They’re on the pricey side, so unless you’re well-off enough to have anything from them in your long-term, daily routine, then you probably enjoy them as a treat every now and then, or whenever you find a good deal.

The good thing is that they’re becoming more common in things like beauty advent calendars, giving more people the opportunity to try and test some of their products and finding what works for their needs.

I’ve been able to try some of their products, and I can’t say I’ve been disappointed. This one in particular stands out for me.

What is it?

The Peptide4 Plumping Pillow Facial is a hydrating mask that you apply and leave on overnight. To counteract the hydration lost at night while we sleep, this mask is designed to lock in moisture and seal in the hydrating actives to achieve brighter, fresher skin in the morning.

The consistency is a gel mask that feels very cooling on the skin, so during the hot weather it’s a real treat.

As the name suggests, the key ingredient is peptides which is what helps to lock in moisture and keep skin hydrated.

How to use it

The official directions from Elemis are to apply a pea-sized amount in upward strokes onto the face after moisturising every evening, and to then wash off in the morning.

I wish I would read directions properly, because I’ve often used way more than is necessary and had a thicker layer than I should. I’m not complaining about that per se, but more at the amount of money I’ve wasted unnecessarily! But if you use the product, you’ll know why it’s so easy to want to smother your face with the whole thing.

My experience

As I’ve alluded to already, I was not remotely disappointed with my experience of using this product. In fact I’m so pleased with it that I’ve already bought another one so that I won’t have to be without it!

I don’t use it every evening because £££, but I use it regularly enough to feel I reap the benefits of it. I apply a layer to my skin at the end of my skincare routine (I forego the oils etc when I use this product and only use it after my moisturiser to ensure my skin has access to its full potential) and leave it on overnight as directed.

When I tell you the scent is something else, I mean it. It’s heavenly! It’s one of the best scents in my skincare collection, in my personal opinion. It smells really light and soothing – but I can’t quite place what it is. All I know is that it smells divine and I can’t wait to apply it.

I find the mask absorbs beautifully into the skin and doesn’t sit in a horrid layer, which I really appreciate.

My skin feels super hydrated, moisturised and soft when I wake up after using the mask. Any fine lines are less visible and my skin definitely feels ‘plump’, which lasts well. I would also say that, despite my skin not being too problematic, I can notice that it is generally calmer which I attribute to using this.

The only downside is the price. It’s fair to say that it isn’t particularly affordable for a lot of people, which is a shame, but Elemis products tend to be on the pricier side. For me it is worth the money but I use it relatively sparingly to make it last. I’m sure there are other products out there that could compare, so perhaps I’ll find some comparisons over time.

Final thoughts

This mask is a staple in my routine for a variety of reasons.

The experience as a whole is very enjoyable to me, and the results are exactly what I would hope for from a product like this.

I would expect that this mask would be suitable for most skin types, but for those with sensitive skin or those who don’t like fragranced products, it would be worth proceeding with caution. As always, do your own research to find what products suit your skin’s specific needs, and get direction and advice from a professional.
